Plan Vivo is ethical and pro-poor. It puts people at the heart of the solution to threats posed by climate change and loss of ecosystem services.

- Empower communities to take control of their resources
- Reduce poverty and improve rural livelihoods and food security
- Generate long term, verifiable carbon services backed up by a shared carbon buffer
- Restore and protect ecosystem services such as biodiversity and watersheds by protecting natural forest

Plan Vivo programmes are run by in-country organisations, and assessed by the Plan Vivo Foundation, a registered charity in the UK.
